About Us

Mountain Tracks are a small, friendly team of dedicated professionals specialising in guided mountain adventure.

Our team of full-time Mountain Guides – Nick, Matt and Olly - all hold the prestigious IFMGA Mountain Guides qualification and are members of the British Mountain Guides Association. Recognised internationally, the IFMGA qualification is a highly prized badge and denotes an extremely high level of professional experience, knowledge and skill in mountaineering, climbing and skiing.

Mountain Guides all share a passion for the mountains, a determination to share this passion with others and a commitment to deliver outstanding mountain experiences and to help each individual achieve their personal goals. It is our goal to ensure that your experience on a Mountain Tracks holiday or course exceeds all your expectations. On a Mountain Tracks trip you’ll find small group sizes and low client:guide ratios, expert local knowledge and an unwavering approach to treating all of our guests as special.

Mountain adventure should be a  wonderful experience – learning new skills, improving self-esteem, making new friends – and also a safe experience. Safety on all our trips is a primary concern and the reason why ALL our high alpine trips are led by IFMGA Mountain Guides providing you with the guarantee that you are always in very safe hands.

Join us in the mountains and discover why we are setting new benchmarks in guided mountain adventure.

"Mountain Tracks is an innovative and personal company, and it’s great to be involved. Our trips always offer undiluted and genuine mountain adventure. As a group of UIAGM guides we have more expertise in off-piste and ski touring than any company and our clients benefit from this.

It all started for me on the gritstone edges of my home county Derbyshire. By mid–teens I was hooked on climbing and the mountains. Many adventures and expeditions followed including notable new routes on Greenland’s big walls. In the 90’s I spent many years leading mountaineering expeditions in the greater ranges and summited on many high peaks of the Himalaya and the Andes. In the winter of 2008 I completed a winter ascent of the North face of the Eiger.

Stuart MacDonald

I first visited the Alps at the age of 17 and immediately fell in love with the mountains. Since then I have taken every opportunity to climb and in 2003 I quit my career as an officer in the British Army to spend more time in the mountains. Over the years I have climbed around the world from the frozen mountains of the Antarctic to the giants of the Himalayas and quite a few places in between.

Achievements have included summitting Mount Everest, making first ascents on South Georgia, and climbing numerous Alpine test-pieces including the North Faces of the Eiger, Matterhorn, Grandes Jorasses and Les Droites (solo). Equally at home on rock, ice, mixed or on skis, I just enjoy being in the mountains. I am based in Chamonix in the French Alps and hope I can share my passion for the mountains with you.

Throughout the time I've spent in the mountains I've really enjoyed the challenge of finding and bringing about the best sense of adventure and learning experience for the folk that I'm with from the prevailing conditions at the time.
