Sion, Switzerland

Sion is the capital of the Swiss canton of Valais. It is a small but attractive town with a long history - archeological evidence points to the site having been inhabited during Neolithic times. The town is located in the centre of the wide Rhone Valley. People from Sion are considered by other Swiss to be a bit odd, impenetrably taciturn and clannish!

Sion is 160kms from Geneva and 276kms from Zurich.

Getting to Sion

The easiest way to get to Sion from the UK is to fly. Sion does have it's own small airport. Due to its location it is often closed due to bad weather. We usually recommend travelers fly to Geneva. From here the transfer time by rail is 2 hours.
