Perfect week for Mont Blanc ascent

Summit of Mt Blanc

Many thanks to the team this week from Mountain Tracks and KE for keeping the guides entertained! I don't think I have laughed so much for ages. The weather was pretty cold at the beginning of the week with full duvet jacket action on the Grand Paradiso.

Luckily the winds died down and temperatures rose for out summit attempt, a perfect day! More on our Mont Blanc Climber weeks here

BCA's long awaited Tracker 3

BCA's long awaited Tracker 3
The Tracker 3 is a new avalanche transceiver from Back Country Access (BCA) that builds on the success of the company's highly popular Tracker 2. The new unit has an easier to use multiple search function and is even more lightweight and compact (this new model is about the same size as most smartphones). The Tracker 3 weighs just 170g (including batteries!) and measures up at 115x70x22mm.

Grands Montets gets new lift!

Grands Montets gets new lift!

In Argentière the helicopter is whirling back and forth delivering sections of the new lift to replace the often bottle-necked Plan Joran chair lift. This winter the replacement 84 cabin gondola will whisk riders up the mountainside to 2,130m in just 7 minutes (with an improved capacity of 3,200 people an hour). Hoorah! This is great news for lovers of Grands Montets' amazing off-piste terrain. That said, we're a little nostalgic... there was something to be said for the old chairlift...

New routes in the Verdon

Verdon

This week Greg and I decided to bin going into the mountains and opted for a sun tan instead. We hit the road, climbing in the Aravis, and then on to Orpierre and finally the Verdon Gorge. I hadn't climbed in the Verdon for a few years but it was good to be back.
