Welcome to Mountain Tracks

guided mountain adventure

Mountain Tracks is a team of dedicated mountain guides specialising in IFMGA guided mountain adventure. All our trips and courses are led by highly qualified staff including IFMGA alpine mountain guides or experienced ski instructors specialising in off piste techniques. We all share a passion for the mountains and a determination to share our enthusiasm with our clients. We are committed to delivering outstanding alpine mountain experiences and to help each individual achieve their personal goals.

We run challenging and rewarding courses and holidays to the Alps and beyond throughout the year. In winter our programme includes off-piste skiing holidays, hut-to-hut ski tours and mountain and avalanche awareness training courses. In summer we focus on high altitude glacier trekking, alpine mountaineering; and throughout the year we offer great worldwide expeditions. We offer trips that are suitable for everyone from alpine novices exploring the mountains for the first time to experienced skiers and mountaineers striving for the ultimate challenge.

We hope you enjoy browsing through our website, are inspired by the courses and holidays on offer and are able to join us in the mountains soon!

Summer Alpine Kit

summer alpine kit

The summer is fast approaching for Mountain Tracks and with it a deluge of questions on summer kit. Some of the more bizarre questions we are asked include:

'can I use my grand dads antique Edward Whymper style ice axe?'
'can I climb Mont Blanc in sturdy trainers?'
'do I need lace up crampons?'

Ski Touring Bindings: The facts!

At Mountain Tracks we are bombarded with questions on ski touring equipment. As the UK's leading Guided ski adventure company I felt it was about time we dispelled a few myths. Gone are the days where cables would attach your boot to the ski (unless you're a telemarker). Modern ski bindings need to be light and strong enough to cope with driving large skis and stiff boots at high speed.

Gulmarg 2012

The skiing in Gulmarg was superb this year. Large and regular snowfalls, coupled with persistent could temperatures meant that the powder legend was alive and well. Mountain Tracks ran 5 week of Gulmarg this year. The first weeks were hosted by Mountain Tracks founder Nick Parks, the middle weeks were guided by Olly Allen and Miles Bright and the final two weeks were ran by myself. There have been several changes for the better in Gulmarg, notably the addition of 'Marys Chair', this modern equipment means that worthy skiing is possible when the top Gondola is closed due to bad weather.

Latest Weather and Snow Report

A winter of perfect snow

Well it’s been an interesting few weeks since my last report, we have gone from the sunny weather of mid January to a snowfall of over 1m in less than 12hrs! Then days of a steady, continuous snowfall giving the most amazing skiing in Alaskan style conditions to the baltically cold weather of this week.
